Based on the case of Mazhuang village in Fengqing county, Yunnan Province, this paper explores the smallholders' spontaneous response in the "turning point" of agricultural de-involution process. From the perspective of smallholders' laboring process, it summarizes the characteristics of the production process of different types of agricultural products, the crop collocation strategy, production rhythm and labour input plan which smallholders lay down according to the characteristics of agricultural production process, and the adjustment which smallholders made based on the changes of objective conditions in production process. It found that the labour plays a core role in the endowments of smallholders, and "rapid growth of urbanization and non-agricultural employment" is the key transitional event that contributed to China's agriculture production entering the "turning point" of de-involution. In this context, the smallholders' spontaneous response in the "turning point" of de-involution process is mainly reflected in their labour mobilization between agriculture-industry-commerce, and urban-rural areas.
