Evaluation of coupling coordination and spatial disparity between county⁃level economy and rural revitalization based ondata analysis from 14 prefecture⁃level cities in Liaoning Province
Promoting rural revitalization and high⁃quality development of the county⁃level economy is a critical task for regional coordinated development in the new era. Existing studies have primarily explored the interaction between these two aspects at national or inter⁃provincial levels, but systematic examination of intra⁃provincial differences remains limited. Taking 14 prefecture⁃level cities in Liaoning Province as a case study, it investigates the coupling coordination level and spatial disparity between county⁃level economy and rural revitalization within the context of China' rural revitalization strategy, providing empirical insights for other regions. Using the entropy method to construct comprehensive indices for county⁃level economy and rural revitalization, a coupling coordination model was employed to characterize their interactive relationship. Dagum Gini coefficient decomposition, Moran's I, and spatial Markov chain methods were applied to systematically analyze the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics within the province. From 2004 to 2023, the coupling coordination degree between county⁃level economy and rural revitalization in Liaoning Province generally transitioned from dysfunction to coordination, with some cities achieving intermediate or good coordination levels. While regional disparities overall converged, the contribution of intra⁃regional differences and hypervariable density increased in recent years. Spatially, there was an agglomeration effect that transitioned from weak to strong and then weakened; high⁃level neighborhoods reinforced high⁃value locking, while low⁃level neighborhoods exacerbated low⁃value traps. The case of Liaoning demonstrates that the interaction between county⁃level economy and rural revitalization exhibits significant potential for improvement and spatial heterogeneity at the prefecture⁃level city scale. The analytical framework and methodology proposed in this study are replicable and can provide insights and comparative references for similar research in other provinces.
