The main experiences of Chinese⁃style agricultural modernization and their implications for Countries in the Global Southern
Agricultural modernization is an important cornerstone of modernization for countries in the global South. In the process of exploring agricultural modernization, China has developed a path of independent development that is different from the Western model. The main experiences include the following five aspects: adhering to an independent and autonomous agricultural development path, basing itself on the basic national conditions of "large country with small farmers", choosing a modernization path that suits itself rather than blindly copying the Western models of large⁃scale or capital⁃intensive; always prioritizing poverty reduction and shared prosperity, closely integrating the improvement of people's livelihoods with agricultural modernization, and promoting the sharing of development achievements by the people through measures such as industrial poverty alleviation, rural e⁃commerce, and rural CEOs; emphasizing the equal importance of technological innovation and green development, promoting resource conservation and environmentally friendly development, and focusing on ecological protection and sustainable utilization of resources; establishing a governance mechanism that is led by the state and involves multiple stakeholders, giving full play to the leading role of the government, guiding the participation of the market and social forces, and forming a joint force to promote agricultural modernization; paying attention to strengthening international cooperation and experience sharing in agriculture, sharing its own practices based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, and transcending the hegemonic logic and dependency traps of the traditional Western aid models. China's autonomous exploration of agricultural modernization has broken free from the constraints of the Western development models, providing inspiration for countries in the global South that are characterized by autonomy, inclusivity, and sustainability. It has contributed Chinese solutions and practical wisdom that differ from traditional Western paradigms in the global knowledge system for development, and has profound significance for promoting the construction of a a new order of fair, shared, and sustainable global agricultural governance.
