Research on the impact of accessibility of medical and health services on the return of rural labor force and its mechanism
Based on the push-pull theory, this paper analyzes the impact of health service accessibility on the return of rural labor force. Using the survey data of farmers in six provinces, the logit model is used to empirically test the effects of health service accessibility on the return of rural labor force and its mechanism. The results show that the accessibility of health services has a significant positive impact on the return of rural labor force. Further analysis of the impact of the availability, spatial accessibility, affordability, adaptability and acceptability of health services on labor return shows that affordability, adaptability and acceptability have a significant impact on rural labor return, while the impact of availability and spatial accessibility on labor return is not significant. The mechanism analysis shows that the accessibility of health services can promote the return of rural labor force by enhancing residents' sense of well-being, equity cognition and confidence in future lives. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the improved accessibility of health service can attract more labor force employed in other provinces to return home; Additionally, families residing in economically advantageous areas find healthcare accessibility more appealing for rural labor force to return.
